The Sonoran Arts League Studio has announced its new fall class schedule, which is geared toward all ages and levels of experience. With dozens of classes to choose from, residents can tap into their creativity by attending a one-day workshop or a series of classes. The fall classes began on Friday, Sept. 6, and run through Sunday, Dec. 15, according to a press release.
Crystal White, the league’s manager of education programs, said the nonprofit’s art classes offer a unique opportunity to engage in creativity and self-expression.
“By taking classes with us, you not only gain access to expert instruction and diverse artistic techniques, but you will also support a community-driven initiative dedicated to enriching lives through art,” Ms. White said in the release.
Our classes are designed to be inclusive and accessible for all ages, fostering personal growth, cultural understanding, and community connection.”
Jeanne Anne Baughman, of Cave Creek, has been teaching ceramics at the League’s Studio for nearly two years. Ms. Baughman, a former art teacher in the Cave Creek Unified School District, has been passionate about creating nature-inspired handmade pottery for more than 30 years.
“I love teaching, and it’s so rewarding to see people’s expressions when their pieces come out of the kiln,” Ms. Baughman said. “My classes at the League Studio are during the day and in the evening to accommodate those who work. We offer a chance to throw pottery on the wheel or create a unique piece of hand-built pottery. The classes offer a great creative outlet to meet people and make friends.”
Karen Michaels learned about the Sonoran Arts League art classes when she moved to Cave Creek more than three years ago. She had been an oil painter for several years but was curious about the ceramics class for beginners.
“I enrolled in the class and started my adventures with clay,” Ms. Michaels said. “I have been taking ceramic classes ever since, including wheel throwing and hand building. People are very welcoming, and I enjoy the casual, friendly atmosphere at the studio. I have met many wonderful artists along the way. I enjoy being in the studio, supporting the arts, and I volunteer on the studio committee.”
The fall classes range from life drawing, oil painting, acrylics, pastels, watercolors and mixed media collage to pottery on the wheel, ceramic garden totems, jewelry enameling, and many other creative subjects. This year’s roster of classes also includes an expanded list of classes for children and teens.
Fees for classes start at $25 per hour of instruction. The league also provides free art classes for veterans every Thursday through Dec. 26.
The Sonoran Arts League Studio is at 7100 E. Cave Creek Road.
