The Sonoran Arts League and The Holland Center have partnered to bring a unique “Amazing Artists” series to the North Valley community, with special artist presentations at The Holland Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Monday of each month through May 2024.
The next presentation on Monday, Nov. 13, features glass artist Carole Perry.
A longtime arts advocate, Ms. Perry will discuss the art glass movement in America and explain how hot, warm, and cold processes differ when creating glass art, according to a press release.
“My goal is to educate guests so that they can walk into any gallery, museum, or gift shop and recognize the different skills required to create the glass art they see,” Ms. Perry said.
A native of southern Oregon, Ms. Perry has been creating functional and sculptural glass from her Laughing Glass Studio in Cave Creek for over 30 years. In 1990, she set aside a successful career in computers to pursue her passion for glass full-time. Ms. Perry is also one of 41 studio hosts during the popular Hidden in the Hills Artist Studio Tour, taking place during the last two weekends of November.
Reservations are $10, and all proceeds from admission will benefit the Sonoran Arts League and Holland Community Center art programs.
In addition, some artists will showcase their work during the presentations, and 30% of any art sales will benefit the Sonoran Arts League.
The Holland Center Executive Director Jennifer Rosvall says the center and the league have very similar goals.
“We’re both dedicated to arts and education, so it made sense to align our efforts to create a new, unique artist series,” Ms. Rosvall said.
Future presentations will feature abstract painter Gail Haire on Dec. 11; oil painter Virginia Brooks on Jan. 8, 2024, ceramic artist Christopher Heede on Feb. 12, sculptor/mixed media artist Joanie Wolter on March 11, jeweler Carol Tenwalde on April 8, and ceramic artist Robin Ray on May 13.
