Tempe-based Dixxon Flannel Co. has released a new collaboration with Metallica to mark the 30th anniversary of the band’s 1996 album “Load.”
The red‑and‑black plaid flannel draws inspiration from the album and includes details such as a sewn‑in neck tag featuring the original artwork, a Ninja Star logo on the top collar buttons, and additional elements tied to the record’s themes, according to a press release.
Via social media, Dixxon noted, “It’s hard to encapsulate the raw emotion of this record through mere words, so we opted to do it through thread, brass, blood, and everything in between.”
The release is the fifth collaboration between Metallica and Dixxon, following flannels inspired by “…And Justice for All,” “Ride the Lightning” and
“72 Seasons.” Each limited-edition piece incorporates album‑specific art, logos and color schemes applied to Dixxon’s D‑Tech flannel material.
The collaboration comes during Metallica’s M72 World Tour in support of the band’s eleventh studio album, “72 Seasons.” The tour began in April 2023 in Amsterdam and is scheduled to conclude in July 2025 in London, with additional 2026 European dates announced earlier this year.
Metallica was formed in Los Angeles by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich and later based in San Francisco. The band — now composed of Mr. Hetfield, Mr. Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo — continues to perform and record.
The Metallica x Dixxon: Load 30th Anniversary Flannel is priced at $59.99 and is available through Metallica’s official website, the Probity UK Shop and Dixxon.com in men’s and women’s styles.
