The downtown Phoenix Human Services Campus is hosting a water drive from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 9, at the Harrison Street Gate at 1300 W. Harrison.
Officials at the Human Services Campus report a minimum of 100,000 bottles of water are needed to meet needs at the social services outreach campus from now until September due to dangerous temperatures affecting those who are experiencing homelessness in the Valley of the Sun.
About 3,000 bottles a day are handed out by Human Services Campus staff to provide water to those experiencing homelessness, particularly during the brutal summer months. In addition to water bottles these items are sought this Saturday:
- deodorant;
- adult underwear and socks (new and in packages);
- electrolyte packs;
- sunscreen, hats, visors, solid grey bandanas (no patterns), sunglasses, lip balm, aloe burn gel; and
- insulated water bottles (half-gallon size are preferred)
In partnership with St. Joseph the Worker, the Human Services Campus founded ThirstAid a number of years ago.
Founded in 2005, the Human Services Campus is a collaborative force of partner organizations united on one campus to end homelessness. Found just west of downtown Phoenix, 16 independent agencies on the Campus see nearly 1,000 individuals every day, offering a holistic range of client services, officials there say.
