The Ability360 Phoenix Rising Power Wheelchair Soccer Team goes after its second consecutive national title at the U.S. Power Soccer Association National Tournament, June 23-26, at the Turnstone Plassman Athletic Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Ability360 team heads into the tournament as the defending Founders Conference national champion after winning the event in 2019 — the last tournament held before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After a two-year layoff because of Covid, we can’t wait to get back to the national tournament to defend our title and to, hopefully, set the stage to advance to the Premier Conference,” said player-coach Tony Jackson, in a press release. “We’re certainly not lacking in skill or confidence to make that happen.”
The 36-team tournament features teams from Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin, the release states.
The Ability360 team includes Mr. Jackson of Phoenix; John Beaubien of Glendale; Gabe Trujillo of Phoenix; and Matthew Russell of Phoenix.
The tournament operates under a pool play format with a single-elimination championship round.
