A man was shot and killed yesterday at a south Scottsdale Albertsons grocery store.
The Scottsdale Police Department about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, reported a shooting incident in the area of north Scottsdale and east Thomas roads advising the general public the scene was still an active situation — and to avoid the area.
About an hour later police officials — via its social media channel available HERE — reported there was no immediate threat to the community and the incident was isolated.
In the moments following the Scottsdale Police Department social media post, broadcast outlets reported initial details including police reported two men were shot following an altercation near the self-checkout line at the Albertsons at 2785 N. Scottsdale Road.
About 7 p.m. last night, Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther alerted elected leaders at City Hall with details of the investigation reporting one of the parties involved is now deceased with the other collapsing near a veterinarian found along Thomas Road.
“[The police department] began receiving multiple calls about an active shooter inside the Albertsons,” Chief Walther told members of Scottsdale City Council. “We saturated the location with PD assets and discovered a wounded person inside the store and another wounded person outside the store near the vet clinic on Thomas road.”
Chief Walther explained initial investigation suggests there was some kind of altercation that erupted into gun violence inside the Albertsons grocery store.
“The two parties got into a shooting inside the store with both subjects being wounded,” he said. “One remaining inside and one fleeing where he collapsed by the vet hospital — As of this writing one of the wounded parties is deceased and the other is being treated at the hospital.”
Scottsdale Police Department officials say they will report further investigation facts as they come available.
