Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona invested more than $6 million into communities statewide in 2025, supporting programs aimed at improving health and expanding resources for residents.
The reinvestments focused on hunger relief, workforce development, emergency response and community wellbeing, according to a press release.
“We believe that health is more than care—it’s about creating opportunities for every Arizonan to thrive,” Paul Penzone, chief community relations officer at AZ Blue, said. “Our reinvestment in 2025 helps address the state’s most pressing health challenges.”
AZ Blue carried out several initiatives across Arizona, including:
Heat relief and disaster response: Partnering with organizations such as Tucson Electric, the Red Cross and the Phoenix Fire Department to distribute hydration supplies and emergency kits during extreme heat.
Health screenings and education: Offering no-cost diabetes risk assessments, A1C tests, mammography services and behavioral health resources at community events, particularly in rural areas.
Healthcare workforce development: Funding scholarships through partnerships with Coconino Community College, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona to help train future healthcare professionals and address provider shortages.
Food insecurity: Working with local food banks and community organizations to provide meals and basic groceries to families, along with support for programs that increase access to healthy food in underserved communities.
Volunteerism: Employees logged more than 14,000 volunteer hours assembling comfort kits for people experiencing homelessness, preparing school supplies for foster children and supporting hunger-relief efforts.
AZ Blue states that these partnerships and volunteer contributions are part of a broader effort to expand access to care, resources and community support across the state.
