Royse Contemporary will present Mood, a solo exhibition by Phoenix-based artist Daniel Shepherd that explores color, line, abstraction and collage through a new body of work opening this fall.
The exhibition features paintings and mixed-media works that blend abstraction and collage, highlighting Shepherd’s continued exploration of color, movement and layered forms. The collection brings together paintings and collages that reflect the artist’s evolving creative practice, according to a press release.
“Mood” refers to the artist’s desire to convey a different emotion, perspective or state of mind through each work.
“These paintings are an extension of my earlier minimal colourbox paintings,” Mr. Shepherd said. “These new mixed-media works fuse together my painting and collages.”
The exhibition reflects a broader artistic approach that combines color, composition and movement while drawing on visual and atmospheric influences that have shaped Shepherd’s recent work.
Mr. Shepherd’s paintings incorporate acrylic paint on repurposed, hand-distressed wood panels. His work combines saturated colors, bold linework and organic forms to create compositions that balance spontaneity and structure.
Alongside his paintings, Shepherd continues his exploration of vintage collage, reworking found imagery and familiar subjects into new compositions while retaining elements of the original source material. Across both mediums, his work emphasizes color, movement and organic forms.
Mr. Shepherd is a Phoenix-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes abstract painting, collage and mixed-media artwork. His work is held in private collections internationally and has been exhibited throughout Arizona and California. Shepherd is represented by Royse Contemporary and has been featured in print and online publications.
Mood will be on view from Sept. 3 through Oct. 4, 2026.
Royse Contemporary will host an opening reception for the artist from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, during the Scottsdale ArtWalk. The event will include an opportunity to meet the artist and view the new collection.
Royse Contemporary is at 7077 E. Main St., Suite 6, in the Scottsdale Arts District.
