Ability360 has received a $250,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities to support upgrades at the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center.

The funding will be used to install new video scoreboards, a video scorer’s table with sponsor display panels and replace worn court padding, according to a press release. The organization states that the improvements are intended to enhance safety, accessibility and the overall experience for people with disabilities who use the facility.

The Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center serves thousands of individuals with both visible and invisible disabilities each year through its inclusive sports and recreation programs. The upgrades will support adaptive athletes, youth programs, veterans and community members who rely on the courts for activities such as wheelchair basketball, power soccer, wheelchair rugby, tennis and fitness classes.

“The generous support from Thunderbirds Charities will have a meaningful impact on our community and the thousands of athletes we host on our campus each year,” Chris Rodriguez, chief executive officer of Ability360, said. “Upgrading our scoreboards and court padding will not only enhance safety and accessibility but also elevate the quality of play and the experience for athletes, spectators, and program participants.”

The new video scoreboards are designed to provide improved visibility and clearer game information, while replacing aging court padding will increase safety by reducing potential injuries.

Thunderbirds Charities supports organizations serving individuals with special needs and programs that promote community well-being. Its investment continues a long-standing partnership with the center.

“Ability360 plays a vital role in Arizona and beyond by empowering people with disabilities to live active, healthy, and independent lives,” Matt Mooney, president of Thunderbirds Charities, said. “We are proud to have supported the Sports & Fitness Center since its inception and look forward to seeing this new project come to life.”

Construction and installation of the new equipment are expected to be completed in spring 2026.
