The Saguaros philanthropic membership club has announced the launch of a new specialty license plate, 4AZ Kids, featuring an all-black design. The plate will be available through the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division beginning March 26.
The 4AZ Kids plate is the first Arizona specialty plate to feature a fully black background with white letters and numbers and no logo. Each plate costs $25, with an additional $25 fee for personalization of up to seven characters for passenger vehicles and five characters for motorcycles.
Of each plate sold, $17 will benefit Saguaro Children’s Charities, which supports organizations serving children across Arizona, according to a press release.
Saguaros member Clayton Wolfe led the effort to bring the plate to market.
“Our mission is simple,” Mr. Wolfe said. “Raise as much as possible to support children’s charities in Arizona. We believe the clearest path to accomplish this is to give the people what they want by setting aside our brand and offering a completely logo-free black plate.”
The Saguaros announced the new plate on its Instagram account, @thesaguaros, on March 10. The post generated more than 14,000 shares, 8,500 likes and 330 comments.
With the introduction of the 4AZ Kids plate, Arizona becomes the 10th state to offer a “blackout” style specialty license plate. Most blackout plates have been introduced within the past five years as interest in minimalist designs has increased. Iowa’s blackout plate, introduced in 2019, is now the state’s most popular specialty plate, with more than 713,000 sold as of January 2026.
Mr. Wolfe said a strong response in Arizona could significantly increase funding for Saguaro Children’s Charities, noting that proceeds from the plate support multiple organizations statewide rather than a single cause.
