The Walter Art Gallery is presenting “Gadget Lands,” a solo show of work by local artist Jason Hugger, with an opening reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
The Walter Art Gallery is at 6425 E. Thomas Road in Scottsdale.
Mr. Hugger paints vibrant, surreal desert landscapes populated with fascinating cast-off parts and apparatuses with the goal of producing “work that reveals the luminous beauty hidden in displaced objects and barren desolate horizons,” according to a press release.
Mr. Hugger’s use of found objects and creates a compelling still-life composition.
He then imagines a radiant land where these contrivances of long-lost bits and pieces might rest with their own beauty and temperaments evident to visitors. The result, patrons contend, is paintings that evoke the beauty and desolation of the desert and the enduring power and allure of obscure human objects.
Mr. Hugger received his BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design in 1995. His artwork has been shown extensively in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
The public is welcome to attend the event, but the show can also be viewed by appointment by emailing gallery@thewalterhive.org.
