Sonora Quest Laboratories, along with its parent company, Laboratory Sciences of Arizona, has named Jennifer Erickson as chief executive officer‑elect.

Mr. Erickson will succeed David Dexter, who is retiring after more than 26 years with the organization, according to a press release.

Mr. Dexter joined Sonora Quest and Laboratory Sciences of Arizona in 1999 as president and chief executive officer. During his tenure, the organization expanded its clinical laboratory operations statewide and now performs more than 100 million diagnostic tests annually.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, Mr. Dexter will work with Ms. Erickson to support the leadership transition. He is scheduled to retire March 31.

“As I’ve reflected on my years as CEO, I have a blend of emotions — gratitude, pride, and nostalgia,” Mr. Dexter said. “My fondest memories aren’t of milestones reached or metrics made, but of the people with whom I’ve worked, the resilience during challenges and tough times, and the creativity and innovation that’s been brought to every opportunity.”

Under Mr. Dexter’s leadership, Sonora Quest and Laboratory Sciences of Arizona launched several major initiatives, including the My Lab ReQuest direct‑access testing platform in 2015 and Operation Catapult in 2020 to expand COVID‑19 diagnostic testing capacity.

The organization also partnered with groups such as the American Cancer Society, Aunt Rita’s Foundation and CommunityCares to increase access to diagnostic testing statewide.

Ms. Erickson has more than 20 years of experience in health care and consumer services leadership. Most recently, she served as chief financial officer and chief operating officer for Clin‑Path Associates and Pathology Specialists of Arizona. She previously served as chief financial officer for Sonora Quest from 1999 to 2004 and has experience with the governance structures of Sonora Quest, Laboratory Sciences of Arizona and Banner Health.

“I personally have mentored Jennifer for 26 years, and have had the privilege of working alongside her during that time,” Mr. Dexter said. “I know that she is an excellent fit for the role and am very confident that she will carry on the spirit of a fearless leader.”

Ms. Erickson said she looks forward to building on the organization’s existing foundation.

“Returning to lead the company that gave me such a strong foundation in health care leadership, now in the role once held by my mentor, is both an honor and great responsibility,” Ms. Erickson said. “This is a full‑circle moment that underscores the lasting impact of strong leadership and intentional mentorship. I look forward to building on a legacy defined by forward thinking, meaningful relationships, and care for the people we serve.”
