Foster Arizona, a Mesa-based nonprofit that supports foster and at-risk youth and families, has received a $5,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities to support its Young Adult Housing Program, which serves young adults transitioning out of the foster care system.
Each year, more than 800 young adults in Arizona leave foster care without permanent families or stable housing, increasing their risk of homelessness, unemployment and long-term instability. The Young Adult Housing Program is designed to address those challenges by providing housing along with life skills development, education and career support, and community connections for participants ages 18 to 24, according to a press release.
“This grant from Thunderbirds Charities represents more than financial support—it’s a vote of confidence in young people who deserve stability, dignity, and a real chance to thrive,” Kim Vehon, founder and CEO of Foster Arizona, said. “When young adults age out of foster care, they shouldn’t age out of support. Because of partners like Thunderbirds Charities, we’re able to continue walking alongside them during one of the most critical transitions of their lives.”
Launched in 2018, the Young Adult Housing Program has expanded in response to growing community need, offering housing combined with individualized support services. Participants receive assistance focused on housing stability, financial literacy, education, employment and emotional well-being.
Thunderbirds Charities supports initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for children and families across the Phoenix area. The grant will support Foster Arizona’s efforts to provide stability for young adults during the transition out of foster care.
