Officials at Phoenix City Hall are announcing the S’edav Va’aki Museum has earned reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums.
Since 1971, accreditation has served as a mark of distinction highlighting dedication to meeting museum industry standards and professional practices, according to a press release.
The accreditation program at the American Alliance of Museums ensures the integrity and accessibility of museum collections, reinforces the educational and public service roles of museums, and promotes good governance practices and ethical behavior, the release states.
Core standards for museums and two important questions generally guide every accreditation review. Those questions are:
- How well does the museum achieve its stated mission and goals?
- How well does the museum’s performance meet standards and best practices as they are generally understood in the museum field as appropriate to its circumstances?
The process began with a self-study, City Hall officials report, whereas museum staff provided information about and answered questions regarding every area within the museum including finances, administration, facility maintenance, archives, artifact collections, exhibits, interpretation, and guest services.
Following the self-study, two AAM representatives conducted a peer review this past April.
The S’edav Va’aki Museum receive the field’s gold standard for museum excellence joining the rank of 1,112 accredited museums out of the nation’s estimated 33,000 institutions.
