Scottsdale REALTORS and the Scottsdale Fire Department are investing $10,000 to purchase hundreds more lockboxes for seniors.

“These lockboxes allow emergency responders to access residences without having to break in,” said Lori Stauffer, public information officer for Scottsdale Fire. Lockbox codes are only shared with public safety departments in case of an emergency.

Scottsdale Fire has more than 3,600 lockboxes in the system, which are free for seniors and those with special needs who have annual incomes of less than $25,000, according to a press release.

All other residents are asked to make a one-time donation of $30, the release states.

“If a senior is unable to get to the door, participating in the lockbox program can help save their life and property,” said Scottsdale REALTORS 2025 President Allison Cahill, in a prepared statement.

The association launched one of the first such programs in the country back in 2004. In addition to lockbox services, Scottsdale REALTORS has more than 100 designated senior real estate specialists who are uniquely qualified to assist older adults looking for a lifestyle change.
