Jordan Taylor, Jason Merck, and Zac Cohen have launched Räkkhaus, a new architectural firm in downtown Phoenix.
Led by Principal Architect Sean Ragudo, Räkkhaus focuses on immersing itself in local culture, history, and social narratives, representatives of the brand tell the Digital Free Press.
The name Räkkhaus reflects this ethos, combining the Finnish word ‘Rakkaus,’ meaning love, and the German word ‘Haus,’ signifying house. Together, they symbolize the studio’s mission to create environments that fuse passion and innovation, resonating deeply with both their context and their inhabitants.
With studios in Helsinki and Phoenix, Räkkhaus brings together a diverse team of architects from around the world. The firm leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence and other technological advancements to deliver cutting edge, inclusive projects.
Mr. Cohen, creative director at Räkkhaus, challenges the status quo.
“At Räkkhaus, we believe architecture has the power to transform the way people live, work, and connect,” Mr. Cohen said in a prepared statement. “It’s not just about solving problems—it’s about developing opportunities for wonder and discovery. Our designs aim to spark curiosity, challenge expectations, and foster a sense of belonging in every space we create.”
Mr. Ragudo, principal architect at Räkkhaus, consistently delivers dynamic, sustainable, and provocative designs.
“There’s a common misconception that great architecture is unattainable without exorbitant budgets or that staying within budget means settling for the mundane,” he said. “This couldn’t be further from the truth. Great architecture emerges from elevating the ordinary and revealing potential where others see only limitations.”
Found in the Roosevelt Row arts district, Räkkhaus sees their work as a narrative tool that reflects identities, histories, and the aspirations of the communities they serve.
