Scottsdale employees proudly accepted the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies reaccreditation award last week at the National Recreation and Park Association Conference in Atlanta.
CAPRA accreditation is the only national recognition of its kind for park and recreation agencies, with less than 2% of departments nationwide achieving this elite status, City Hall officials tell the Digital Free Press.
The department has maintained CAPRA accreditation since October 1994 — making it the longest-accredited agency in Arizona and one of the top five longest-accredited in the United States, officials at Scottsdale City Hall report.
“This achievement highlights our commitment to providing exceptional service and operational excellence in parks and recreation management to Scottsdale,” said Nick Molinari, community services assistant executive director.
“Scottsdale is honored to be one of the select few to meet CAPRA’s rigorous standards of quality in management, service, and programming. It’s an accomplishment that reflects our dedication to excellence, the visionary leadership demonstrated by our entire Parks and Recreation team and the support we receive from our city leadership and the Scottsdale community.”
Scottsdale Parks and Recreation offers a wide array of amenities and programs. The city boasts 45 parks, several of which include extensive playgrounds, multi-use fields and aquatic facilities. These facilities serve as hubs for outdoor recreation, contributing to the local economy by attracting tourists, special events and sports tournaments.
CAPRA standards emphasize equitable and accessible services, and Scottsdale’s reaccreditation, city officials say, demonstrates that the department continues to prioritize inclusive design and programming for all residents, regardless of ability or background.
CAPRA accreditation involves meeting over 150 standards, ensuring that Scottsdale operates at the highest level in every aspect of its services, from operations to management.
