Phoenix Children’s has spent the past several months recognizing the contributions of nurses through its 100 Days of Nursing initiative, a program designed to celebrate the role nurses play in patient care and support.
Through the initiative, patients and families have shared messages of appreciation with nurses, while the organization has highlighted different aspects of the nursing profession through weekly themes, staff engagement opportunities, celebrations, prize drawings and other activities intended to foster a culture of recognition.
As the 100 Days of Nursing celebration approaches its conclusion, nurses are extending their efforts beyond the hospital by supporting students and families in neighboring school communities.
This week, Phoenix Children’s nurses volunteered at back-to-school events at William T. Machan School and Larry C. Kennedy School, distributing 250 backpacks filled with school supplies, according to a press release.
A donor provided the backpacks, allowing Phoenix Children’s staff to also distribute school supplies, gift cards and classroom essentials to local students and teachers.
