The residents of Pegasus Landing of Mesa are once again rolling up their sleeves and diving into a hands-on art project that has become a beloved tradition in their community.
This time, they’re tackling a monumental 12-foot-long, 4-foot-high puzzle mural featuring a desert scene. And like all good puzzles, it’s a team effort—one piece at a time.
The project began on March 27, with participants gathering in their art class, paintbrushes in hand, eager to bring their pieces to life. Over the next month, residents will continue working on their puzzle pieces, either in group sessions or from their apartments. Once the final piece is placed, the mural will reflect the community’s collective creativity and hard work.
“I’ve always enjoyed painting murals, and I thought this would be a fun way to get everyone involved in something bigger,” said Teresa Hadley, life enrichment director, who leads the project. “Each year, the mural project grows, and it’s something everyone looks forward to. It’s a chance for residents to express themselves and be part of something collaborative.”
This is the fourth year residents have embarked on this creative journey, and with each year, the project has grown in both size and enthusiasm.
In 2021, the residents created a large puzzle mural of “Dogs Playing Poker” in honor of National Puzzle Day. In 2023, they painted a stunning 90-inch-wide by 88-inch-high flower-themed mural. Last year, they tackled a 54-piece puzzle that graced the community’s entryway, measuring 84 inches in height and 66 inches in width.
“About 12 residents are already signed up for this year’s project, and we expect more to join in,” Ms. Hadley said. “It’s a fun way for everyone to get creative, whether they’re painting together in class or working at their own pace. There’s just something special about watching it all come together.”
