The Arizona Department of Education presented a $7 million check to the Hilton Family Holocaust Education Center and the Arizona Jewish Historical Society last month allowing 50,000 Arizona students per year to learn the lessons of the Holocaust.
The current generation of the citizens of Arizona is guaranteeing the lessons of the Holocaust and other Genocides for future generations of students and others for many, many years to come, Department of Education officials tell the Digital Free Press.
“The Holocaust Family Holocaust Education Center will take a multifaceted, experiential approach to presenting the history and legacy of the Holocaust,” said Steve Hilton, project chair for the HFHEC. “As students move through the galleries, they will experience both a physical and emotional journey, gaining knowledge and understanding that will inspire them to take action and help ‘Repair the World’.”
This significant event highlights the department’s commitment to supporting Holocaust education in Arizona.
“I feel incredibly honored to help deliver a $7 million dollar investment from the state for the holocaust education center,” said Rep. Alma Hernandez. “I look forward to our Arizona students being able to visit a state-of-the-art facility like this one, I am proud to have been a part of this critical point in Arizona’s history.”
The Hilton Family Holocaust Education Center will consist of a 28,500-square-foot new building on the current campus of the Arizona Jewish Historical Society. This new facility will include a permanent state of the art high tech gallery dedicated to Holocaust education as well as an area dedicated to traveling exhibits on other genocides and closely related topics.
