A new season of 2nd Sundays on Mill will begin Sunday, Nov. 8, bringing themed entertainment, local vendors, live performances and family-friendly activities back to downtown Tempe.
The free event series takes place on the second Sunday of November, January, February and April, transforming a section of Mill Avenue into an outdoor marketplace and community gathering space. Activities will include entertainment, interactive art, food vendors and opportunities to shop from Arizona-based artists, makers and small businesses, according to a press release.
The event will take place on Mill Avenue between Third Street and University Drive and will once again include the popular Kids Market, where young entrepreneurs can showcase and sell their creations.
This season’s kickoff event will feature a multicultural theme celebrating traditions and cultures from around the world through music, dance, art and community activities.
“2nd Sundays on Mill has become a beloved Downtown Tempe tradition,” Lori Foster, president and CEO of Downtown Tempe Authority, said. “The streets come alive so the vibrancy and energy of the community is on full display. With so many different elements combined into a single afternoon, it’s easy to immerse yourself in the experience and find personal connections.”
Planned performances and activities include:
- African drumming performances
- Live wrestling matches by Lucha Libre Voz
- Kung Fu demonstrations and cultural performances presented by the Arizona Asian American Association
- Traditional Hawaiian dance performances
- Brazilian martial arts demonstrations
- Roaming Golden Phoenix lion dancers
- Irish step dancing by Celtic Steps
