Starting tomorrow the Scottsdale Unified School District is hosting town hall meetings in each of the educational entity’s five learning communities encompassing the municipalities of Scottsdale, Phoenix and the Town of Paradise Valley as school leaders pursue renewal of district’s additional assistance override this November.
The override in place today was approved by voters in November 2016 but is due to expire in June 2024 whereas the November ballot question is to continue the already in-place funding mechanism. If approved in November, the renewed seven-year override would bring in $14.5 million in funding that would be used to provide:
- Curriculum materials and school technology,
- School furniture, fixtures and equipment,
- Fine arts, athletics, and library equipment and materials,
- Playground equipment and facilities.
Scottsdale Schools officials report the current override produces $8.5 million in additional funding and is used for the same purposes as above. The tax rate for the current override is $0.1381 per $100 of net assessed valuation. The estimated tax rate for the renewed override is $0.23 per $100 of net assessed valuation.
