Phoenix Mercury award recognizes local efforts to elevate women in Phoenix

Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council is announcing co-CEO Christina Spicer has been named a recipient of the Phoenix Mercury Believe in Women Award, a recognition that elevates incredible women in sports, business and philanthropy.
Ms. Spicer was honored during the Phoenix Mercury Game on Aug. 27, which also served as Inspiring Girls Day and had thousands of local Girl Scouts and their families in attendance, according to a press release.
Sitting at the intersection of women and girls, basketball, LGBTQ+ rights and people of color, the Phoenix Mercury continues to utilize its platform to lift the voices of those previously silenced and to honor individuals making a difference in the community.
In continuation of this commitment, the Phoenix Mercury, for the third year in a row, is offering the Believe in Women award, which is presented by Fry’s Food Stores.
“The Phoenix Mercury uses its platform every day to elevate women and girls, and we can’t think of better role models for our Girl Scouts,” Ms. Spicer said in a prepared statement. “This honor is truly humbling and fuels my passion of increasing support and advocacy for girls in Arizona. It is even more special to join the incredible group of past Phoenix Mercury Believe in Women honorees, including GSACPC co-CEO Mary Mitchell.”
Ms. Spicer has been a member of the GSACPC team since 2014 and was named co-CEO of the organization in 2022.

A tireless leader in the nonprofit sector since 2003, including roles at notMYkid and Teach For America, Ms. Spicer – a Valley Leadership Class 28 graduate – recently completed service on the Valley Leadership board and is a founding member/past president of Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.
Today, she serves on the Young & Empowered Women Board, Phoenix’s Women Commission, Charter 100 as treasurer and volunteered on the Vista College Prep School board for three years and with the Hope For Future Foster Care Camp.
In 2013, Ms. Spicer served as a Flinn Foundation Flinn-Brown cohort and in 2009 founded CAMEO, a women’s mentorship organization. In 2022, she was honored among the Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 and was named a Diverse Business Leader to Watch in 2023.
