Phoenix-based CCBG Architects is serving as the local architect of record for the Chicago Cubs Training Facility – Clubhouse Expansion and Technology Lab at Sloan Park in Mesa.
The team’s spring training home, located at 2510 W. Rio Salado Parkway, recently completed a construction project to add new training, technology and support spaces aimed at improving player development, according to a press release.
The expansion includes a 6,400-square-foot addition to the main clubhouse building with a female staff locker room, an umpire locker room and a multiuse open office and meeting area to support the organization’s operational needs.
A separate 18,000-square-foot building houses pitching and hitting tunnels, a video analysis room and support spaces designed to integrate advanced training technologies. The facility is scheduled to open when pitchers and catchers report to 2026 spring training camp on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
“As a firm deeply rooted in Arizona, we take great pride in contributing to a project that strengthens one of the region’s most iconic sports destinations,” Mr. Phillips said. “This expansion enhances the Cubs’ ability to train, develop, and support athletes at the highest level, and it reflects the collaborative spirit shared by the entire project team.”
Sloan Park opened in 2014 as a complex replacing Hohokam Stadium. It has a capacity of 15,000 and was designed to echo the character of Wrigley Field. The project is owned by the City of Mesa and the Chicago Cubs baseball organization.
The lead architect is Populous, with Mortenson serving as general contractor.
