Scottsdale is accepting donations for its annual Beat the Heat Program, which provides supplies to help homebound seniors manage during extreme summer temperatures.
The program supports more than 100 seniors who are unable to leave their homes and relies on community donations to distribute supplies and conduct safety checks throughout June, according to a press release.
Donation items will be accepted through May 15. Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road. Monetary donations are also accepted online.
Requested items include bottled water; new, reusable water bottles; nutritional supplement drinks such as Ensure, Boost, Gatorade, Propel and Liquid I.V.; healthy, store-bought, individually wrapped snacks; books of Forever stamps; $50 grocery cards, with Fry’s or Walmart preferred; and full-size hygiene items including toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip balm, deodorant, body wash, adult wet wipes, shampoo, hand soap and hand lotion.
During June, Scottsdale senior center staff will deliver donated items to participating seniors. Staff also conduct welfare checks during deliveries to confirm air conditioning units are functioning properly and to identify any additional safety concerns.
