Maricopa Community Colleges has selected Dr. Kimberly Britt, as the system’s next executive vice chancellor and provost.

Dr. Britt brings more than 25 years of experience in academic and student affairs leadership and succeeds Lisa Rae Armour, who departed the system in December 2025, according to a press release.

“Dr. Britt’s background, accomplishments in higher education, and time serving as Phoenix College’s president have prepared her to lead in this critical role,” Dr. Steven R. Gonzales, chancellor of Maricopa County Community Colleges, said in a prepared statement. “Her firsthand experience with the life‑changing impact of education remains a valuable asset as she begins in her new role, working collaboratively with faculty, staff and administrators across our 10‑college system.”

Since 2022, Dr. Britt has served as president of Phoenix College. During her tenure, she led academic initiatives, strengthened cross‑college partnerships and advanced efforts focused on student access, retention and completion, the release states.

Prior to serving as president, she held the role of vice president of academic affairs and accreditation liaison officer at Phoenix College, overseeing 17 instructional departments and Academic Support Services.

“I have always believed education is a catalyst for personal growth and community strength,” Dr. Britt said. “Since joining Maricopa Community Colleges, I have worked with colleagues who actively design initiatives and build structures that help to ensure our students succeed. That commitment has fueled the passion for my work as a president, and as I step up to serve as the next executive vice chancellor and provost.”

Earlier in her career, Dr. Britt served as special assistant to the chancellor of Virginia Community College and as vice president of academic and student affairs at Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia. Her responsibilities included oversight of academic programs, student success initiatives, accreditation and the implementation of guided pathways.

“I am excited to work with and be of service to all 10 colleges, as I know that same commitment runs throughout Maricopa Community Colleges,” Dr. Britt said. “To serve in this role is an honor, and I am grateful.”

Dr. Britt holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in English from Northwestern State University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Charleston Southern University.
