As a lifelong moderate, I’ve always tried to be open minded and not vote either party line.
The criteria I look for is common sense thinking, policies that serve residents/taxpayers first (vs. candidates or party aspirations), using our hard working tax dollars as if they were their own, and serving with transparency. Pretty basic stuff.
Seven years into our new lives in Scottsdale, I got serious about researching local dynamics and candidates.
As our kids say, ‘I’m not gonna’ lie’…I’ve been pretty disappointed and even a bit irritated as I look at our current city leadership with regard to this basic criteria.
No one I know in either party likes what’s going on: unbridled development, rising tax proposals, road shrinkage, which confounds given our exploding population, and apparently some subtle but impactful housing agenda items which, if other cities are a guidepost, affect the safety and well being of our children, seniors — all of us.
I reached out to some candidates and incumbents, and after spending time with Lisa Borowsky I found her common sense philosophy to be highly aligned with mine, my friends and my network: enhance and preserve our safety, our wallets, our wonderful resources, parks, police/fire, schools and so forth.
And my gosh, put the brakes on this development!
I also sat down with Adam Kwasman and again, I was pleased to hear nothing but sensible thinking, sound policy ideas, and Scottsdale family-first views.
In my humble (but researched) opinion, we’ve gotten too far away from basic values, common sense and truly protecting the very things several incumbents and candidates professed to do. So Lisa and Adam get my vote, a vote to actually do what they all promised us: preserve and protect the quality of Scottsdale citizen’s lives and our children’s future here.
I’m not gonna’ lie, it’s pretty basic.
