Abrazo Arrowhead Campus has launched a Comfort Cart Program aimed at providing additional care and comfort to patients during their hospital stays.
The program is led by hospital volunteers who deliver a mobile cart stocked with personal care and comfort items directly to patient rooms.
Items are provided at no cost and include sleep kits, nail files, tissues, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste and toothbrushes, lotion, lip balm, playing cards, adult coloring books, puzzle books and spiritual care materials, which are distributed Monday through Friday, according to a press release.
“Our volunteers play an essential role in supporting patients beyond clinical care,” said Sherry Roueche, volunteer coordinator at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus.
“The Comfort Cart Program is a simple yet meaningful way to provide reassurance, dignity and a sense of normalcy to those who may be feeling vulnerable while away from home,” said Sherry Roueche, volunteer coordinator at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus.
As the program expands, Abrazo Arrowhead Campus is seeking community involvement to support additional offerings for patients.
“One additional item we hope to add to our Comfort Cart is handmade shawls to help keep patients warm while sitting up in bed, so if you or someone you know knits or sews and would like to help our patients and contribute we would appreciate it and encourage you to contact Volunteer Services at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus,” said Sherry Roueche, volunteer coordinator at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus.
Stephen Garner, CEO of Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, echoed a similar sentiment.
“The Comfort Cart Program reflects our commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and to strengthening connections between the hospital, our community and the patients we serve, as we strive to make any hospital experience as comfortable and nurturing as possible,” he said.
