Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego will present the Global Philanthropy Leadership Award to the Flinn Foundation during the 2026 Mayor’s International Gala in recognition of the organization’s contributions to philanthropy, innovation and community investment in Arizona.
The award will be presented Friday, Oct. 16, at Chateau Luxe in Phoenix, according to a press release.
“Phoenix’s emergence as a globally competitive city did not happen by accident — it has been fueled by partners such as the Flinn Foundation that understand the importance of investing in research, people, and bold ideas,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Flinn’s leadership has helped build the foundation for the innovation economy Phoenix is known for today, and its impact will be felt for generations. I am proud to recognize the Flinn Foundation for its extraordinary impact and commitment to Arizona’s future.”
The Flinn Foundation is an Arizona-based philanthropic organization focused on bioscience, education, civic leadership and the arts. The foundation supports initiatives and institutions aimed at strengthening communities and contributing to the state’s economic development and quality of life.
“For more than 60 years, the Flinn Foundation has invested in Arizona with a long view, believing that talented people, bold ideas, and strong institutions can change the trajectory of a place,” Tammy McLeod, president and CEO of the Flinn Foundation, said. “We are deeply rooted in Arizona, but the challenges we take on and the ideas we help advance are not confined by geography. This recognition affirms the power of philanthropy to build locally, think expansively, and create impact that travels.”
The foundation has also supported the growth of Arizona’s bioscience sector through efforts that encourage collaboration among research institutions, universities, healthcare organizations, entrepreneurs and public-sector partners.
Hosted by Phoenix Sister Cities, the Mayor’s International Gala is themed “Blossoming Friendships” and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Phoenix-Hermosillo Sister City relationship. The milestone marks five decades of cultural, diplomatic and economic ties between Phoenix and Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Proceeds from the event will support Phoenix Sister Cities programs, including international youth ambassador exchanges, cultural events and cross-border community initiatives.
