Saguaro High School junior Myson Galindo has been selected for the UNITY 25 Under 25 national leadership class, a program that recognizes Native American and Alaska Native youth leaders from across the United States.
Mr. Galindo, a member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, is one of 25 young leaders chosen for the program, which was launched in 2014 by United National Indian Tribal Youth Inc. (UNITY). The program honors Native youth who demonstrate leadership while promoting personal, cultural and community development, according to a press release.
Mr. Galindo serves as corresponding secretary for the Young River People’s Council and previously served as the council’s clerical secretary and treasurer. His involvement has included community mural projects, youth media initiatives and communications efforts focused on supporting Native youth.
As part of the leadership class, Galindo will participate in UNITY-sponsored events and leadership development programs during his term.
“Myson’s selection reflects his commitment to serving his community and supporting other Native youth through leadership and civic engagement,” the organization said.
The UNITY 25 Under 25 program is designed to encourage youth leadership and strengthen connections among Native communities across the country.
Mr. Galindo’s selection places him among a group of young Indigenous leaders recognized for their contributions to their communities and their potential for future leadership.
