The Translational Genomics Research Institute, part of City of Hope, brought together Arizona’s philanthropic, fashion and business communities for the sixth annual Runway for Research at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

The event, hosted in partnership with Neiman Marcus and Scottsdale Fashion Square, raised awareness and support for women’s cancer research through philanthropy, community partnerships and education, according to a press release.

“Philanthropy plays a critical role in helping research move faster,” TGen President and Research Director Dr. Jeffrey M. Trent said. “When our community invests in women’s cancer research, it provides our scientists the resources they need to explore new ideas, test promising approaches, and move discoveries from the lab to the people who need them most.”

Inspired by the Year of the Horse, this year’s event highlighted efforts to advance research for women facing cancer. Guests wore shades of pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month while learning more about progress in precision medicine, early detection and personalized cancer treatments.

The event featured a runway fashion show, shopping experiences and opportunities for attendees to support cancer research initiatives focused on improving outcomes for women.

The event was co-chaired by Lee Courtney and Justine Hurry, who helped lead community engagement efforts and support for women’s cancer research.

“So many of us have been impacted by cancer in some way, which is why this event feels incredibly meaningful,” Ms. Courtney said. “By supporting innovative cancer research, we’re helping ensure that women in Arizona have access to more personalized and effective care.”

For more than two decades, TGen has focused on translating scientific discoveries into treatments for patients with cancer and other complex diseases. Organizers said community support helps advance research and accelerate the development of new approaches to patient care.

“As co‑chairs, Lee and I see first-hand how this event strengthens our community,” Ms. Hurry said. “Runway for Research brings people together to discover what precision medicine can do and to champion research that directly supports women faced with a cancer diagnosis.”
