The city of Scottsdale has appointed Cassie Johnson as interim general manager of WestWorld, placing her in charge of the event and equestrian venue as it continues to serve as a community destination and contributor to the local economy.

Since January, Ms. Johnson has been on special assignment supporting WestWorld, where she has become familiar with the facility’s operations while leading efforts to advance the WestWorld Strategic Plan, improve operational efficiency, modernize technology, strengthen internal controls, and support long-term financial and facility planning.

WestWorld hosts hundreds of events annually on its 386-acre campus, including equestrian competitions, automotive auctions, consumer and trade shows, sporting events, festivals and community celebrations, according to a press release.

“WestWorld is an important asset for Scottsdale, and Cassie has the experience, leadership and collaborative approach needed to build on the progress already underway,” Deputy City Manager Judy Doyle said. “She understands our organization, values strong partnerships and is committed to ensuring WestWorld continues serving our residents, event partners and visitors at the highest level.”

Ms. Johnson said she looks forward to continuing work with WestWorld staff and stakeholders.

“I’m honored to serve as interim general manager and continue working alongside the exceptional WestWorld team,” interim General Manager Cassie Johnson said. “WestWorld is one of Scottsdale’s most unique community assets, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation that’s already in place. Together with our staff, event partners and stakeholders, we’ll continue delivering exceptional experiences while positioning the facility for long-term success.”

Ms. Johnson began her career with the city of Scottsdale as an intern in 2011 and has served the city for nearly 13 years in a variety of leadership roles.

Before joining WestWorld, she served as deputy director of strategic initiatives for the Scottsdale Police Department, overseeing strategic planning, accreditation, budget and finance, police records, organizational performance, communications and special projects.

Throughout her career, Ms. Johnson has led initiatives involving public safety, budgeting and finance, strategic planning, emergency management, organizational development, process improvement, technology implementation and community engagement.

She has also served in leadership positions with professional organizations at the local, state, national and international levels, including as treasurer of Engaging Local Government Leaders, president of the Arizona Police Accreditation Coalition and an academic associate in Arizona State University’s School of Public Affairs.

Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University. She also earned a Master of Arts in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
