Scottsdale Community College is staging one of literature’s most enduring horror stories this Halloween season with Dracula, a stage adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel.
Directed by Don K. Williams, the production runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22; Friday, Oct. 23; Saturday, Oct. 24; and Friday, Oct. 30, with a final performance from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Scottsdale Community College Performing Arts Center Main Stage.
Adapted by playwright Steven Dietz and presented through arrangement with Concord Theatricals, the production follows Count Dracula as he ventures beyond Transylvania in search of new victims, drawing others into a struggle against a centuries-old evil.
According to a press release, the adaptation remains closely aligned with Bram Stoker’s original novel while bringing the story’s suspense, horror and supernatural elements to a live theater audience.
“This is a really faithful adaptation of the novel: a novel that is much more like a modern horror movie than most people know. Expect to be frightened!” Don K. Williams, faculty member and head of performance and directing at Scottsdale Community College, said.
The production combines elements of suspense, gothic drama and dark humor that have helped make Dracula a lasting work of horror fiction.
