Scottsdale’s impressive nightlife scene fuels local tourism, Scottsdale’s prominence, and the local economy.

Whether a tourist is hiking, playing golf, or relaxing at one of Scottsdale’s resorts, the Scottsdale Entertainment District in Old Town broadens the tourist experience while they are here. And for many, the District brought them here in the first place.

I’ve known that for a long time.

My name is Gem Ray. I am a nightlife producer and promoter who connects celebrities, athletes, and elite travelers with Scottsdale’s premier nightlife experiences. I am the proud owner of Scottsdale Nights, a 16-year-old concierge service based in Scottsdale. I have made it my mission to help visitors and residents navigate Scottsdale’s unique nightlife scene while at the same time promoting it as an attraction that generates global attention.

I have helped clients discover the area’s iconic bars and nightclubs. I have helped them rediscover establishments that are revamping, leveling up, and chasing a more polished, elevated crowd.  Old Town and The Entertainment District are entering a new luxury era. And that’s attracting a broader demographic, new customers, and new businesses.

Some of these new businesses include Shiv– A late-night concept with a strict dress code and upscale experience, Maya Nightclub – Reopening with a new layout and renewed energy, F16 Lounge– Catering to both a younger crowd and longtime locals, and Sexy Roman – Italian cuisine with a sleek feel and dress code.

What’s the impact? We are seeing more visitors coming here specifically to enjoy local nightclubs and restaurants. It’s not an afterthought. It’s a draw just like our resorts, golf courses, and spectacular weather.

As this comes together, I like to think that those of us who have been promoting Scottsdale’s nightlife for years helped blaze a trail.  And now that trail is leading to more upscale venues while also supporting the nightclubs that got the ball rolling.

Scottsdale’s nightlife scene is a year-round attraction, not just when the weather is ideal.  It adds value to the visitor experience during major events such as the Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson, or spring training. And it also brings more attendees to these events.

In addition to generating buzz, Scottsdale’s nightlife scene is also generating sales tax revenue for the city, and employment opportunities for the Valley.

There have been criticisms of the Entertainment District over the years. Sometimes that’s justified. Other times not.  But from my chair what I see every day is that good business and good times need not be mutually exclusive. And every downtown in Arizona would love to have what Scottsdale already has.
