The first day of Scottsdale Unified School District’s 2024-25 school year was Monday, Aug. 5, and officials there say they are looking forward to teaching 20,000 preschool through high school students.
SUSD’s theme for the new school year is “Elevate Excellence.”
This theme, officials there tell the Digital Free Press, is not just a slogan: it encapsulates the districtwide commitment to provide the highest-quality education for our students.
“In the educational environment, each person has a critical role to play in ensuring that we’re prepared to meet the needs of the students who walk through our doors,” said Dr. Scott Menzel, SUSD’s superintendent, in a prepared statement. “Whether you’re a parent who volunteers in your child’s classroom, a paraprofessional who provides support for students with disabilities, a local business owner who supports a school athletic team, or a classroom teacher or school administrator: you matter.”
Scottsdale Schools is launching several new initiatives and campaigns, including:
- Keeping It REAL/AI Digital Media Literacy Campaign: SUSD’s new digital media literacy campaign, “Keeping it REAL,” encourages students, parents, and staff to Research Thoroughly, Evaluate Sources, Analyze Content Critically, and Lead with Respect.
- Bus Safety Campaign: In partnership with the Scottsdale Police Department (SPD), we are reminding the community to prioritize school bus safety. On a single day last school year, 141 motorists were observed ignoring stopped SUSD school buses that had their stop sign arms extended and lights flashing. This year, SUSD and SPD want motorists to remember that “Bus Stop Means Full Stop.”
