Scottsdale Public Library has a new operating schedule city officials contend increases public access to the four branches of the local library system.
The updated schedule adds five extra service hours each week across the Appaloosa, Arabian, Civic Center and Mustang branches — resulting in an estimated 1,040 additional service hours per year, according to a press release.
New library hours are:
• Monday – Thursday: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. (open one hour earlier)
• Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (close one hour later)
• Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (no change)
• Sunday: 1 – 5 p.m. (no change)
The expanded service hours are shaped by community feedback gathered during the last Library Community Assessment and aligns with recommendations from a recent city audit focused on maximizing operational efficiency, city officials report.
Over the past year, library supervisors have collaborated to design a more sustainable and efficient staffing model. This included analyzing schedules, reviewing programming and reorganizing service points to ensure optimal coverage without increasing staffing costs.
“We heard our community loud and clear, and these expanded hours reflect their input,” said Library Director Mike Beck, in a prepared statement. “By expanding our hours, we’re improving access to the library at times that work best for our residents. Greater access creates more opportunities for learning, connection and personal growth throughout Scottsdale.”
The expanded hours will increase access to a wide range of services including public computers, educational programs and the library’s physical collection. Additionally, drive-thru and curbside hours will adjust to match the new building hours.
