Saguaro High School has hired Jason Ronquillo as its new head football coach, beginning a new chapter for the Sabercats
Coach Ronquillo brings experience leading competitive programs and a focus on developing student‑athletes on and off the field, according to a press release. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, character and high expectations — values school officials say align with Saguaro’s athletic tradition.
Most recently, Mr. Ronquillo served as head football coach at Yelm High School in Washington, where his teams went 51–5 over five seasons.
The program reached back‑to‑back state championship games and won the 2022 Washington state title. Under his leadership, the program earned statewide attention and built a culture centered on discipline and resilience.
His work has been recognized with several honors, including the 2022 NFL Don Shula National Coach of the Year award. He has also received multiple conference coach‑of‑the‑year recognitions and additional awards from coaching associations and media outlets.
Beyond his record on the field, Mr. Ronquillo is known for his emphasis on leadership, academics and personal growth among players. His programs focus on teamwork, hard work and responsibility — principles that reflect Saguaro’s values, school leaders said.
“Saguaro has a storied history of excellence,” Mr. Cervantez said. “We are confident that under Coach Ronquillo’s direction, our football program will continue to compete at the highest level while representing our school with integrity and pride.”
Mr. Ronquillo said he looks forward to working with students, coaches, teachers, families and the broader Saguaro community to continue building a program rooted in unity and tradition.
