PRESS Coffee, a Phoenix specialty coffee roaster, recently appointed Paul Oberg to serve as the brand’s latest head roaster.
As head roaster, Mr. Oberg now oversees coffee sourcing, working directly with PRESS’ network of import partners. He also leads the development of the brand’s annual coffee calendar, selecting import origins and releasing new coffees, according to a press release.
“We are thrilled to welcome Paul to the PRESS Coffee team,” said Jason Kyle, co-owner of PRESS Coffee. “His relationships with roasters across the world bring a unique perspective on coffee sourcing to the brand, and his understanding of importing and exporting coffee will be paramount to the development of new, exciting products.”
Mr. Oberg first entered the coffee industry in 2012 when he began working on a Guatemalan coffee farm. His experiences on this farm planted a seed of interest in specialty coffee, the term for beans scored 80 or higher on a 100-point scale by the Specialty Coffee Association.
At PRESS, Mr. Oberg looks forward to deepening the brand’s relationship with coffee producers worldwide through leveraging his diverse connections built over a decade in the industry.
“There’s no such thing as bad coffee. Every coffee has a home,” Mr. Oberg said. “This is a subjective art, but the most important thing at the end of the day is that you enjoy what you’re drinking, and that the farmer gets paid so they can take care of Mother Earth.”
