Endurance of Light, the latest exhibition by painter Rich Bowman, has opened at Bonner David Galleries, 7040 E. Main Street, in Scottsdale.
The show explores the artist’s ongoing focus on the sky and its shifting atmosphere, according to a press release.
“The sky remains both a subject and a force for me,” Mr. Bowman said. “Ever-changing, yet timeless, familiar, yet endlessly surprising. It is a presence that continues to pull me back, inviting contemplation of light, atmosphere and scale.”
The exhibition includes a range of paintings centered on clouds, sunsets, and light-driven compositions that emphasize atmosphere over narrative. The works encourage intuitive engagement with broad skies, varied hues, and expansive horizons.
A subtle influence of the American Southwest is present throughout the exhibition. While not explicitly depicted, the region’s sense of place appears through shifts in color, heat, and horizon, offering a quiet grounding within the atmospheric themes.
“Some of these pieces push toward more extreme perspective, exaggerating space and viewpoint to heighten the viewer’s physical and emotional relationship to the sky,” Mr. Bowman said. The compositions expand scale and immersion to highlight the vastness overhead.
The exhibition also introduces the artist’s recent work in nocturnes—paintings that explore night skies and low light.
“These paintings shift the conversation from radiance to quiet persistence, where glow replaces glare and the sky asserts its presence through restraint rather than spectacle,” Mr. Bowman said. “Together, the works in Endurance of Light trace a continuum—day to night, calm to dramatic—capturing the sky not as a single moment, but as an enduring companion.”
Endurance of Light: New Paintings by Rich Bowman will be on view at Bonner David Galleries in Scottsdale through March 30, 2026.
