Care Fund, a Mesa-based nonprofit, has received a $15,000 grant through Arizona Financial Foundation’s Local Causes program to support Arizona families facing pediatric medical crises.

The funding will help cover rent and mortgage payments for families whose children are undergoing serious medical treatment, allowing them to maintain housing stability while focusing on care and recovery, according to a press release.

When a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, parents often face financial strain as work income is disrupted and medical responsibilities increase. Care Fund focuses on preventing housing instability by ensuring families can remain in their homes during a child’s medical crisis.

Founded in 2013, Care Fund is the only Arizona nonprofit solely dedicated to preventing homelessness for families facing pediatric medical emergencies. The organization works directly with landlords and mortgage lenders to cover housing expenses on a family’s primary residence during periods of medical hardship.

The $15,000 grant will provide assistance to qualifying families statewide by covering rent or mortgage payments, helping prevent eviction or foreclosure during medical leave or job loss, and reducing financial stress so families can focus on treatment and time together.

In addition to direct housing assistance, Care Fund raises support through initiatives such as Arizona’s dollar-for-dollar Charitable Tax Credit campaign and its “There’s No Place Like Home” UnGala.

“We are incredibly grateful to Arizona Financial for standing beside families during some of the most overwhelming seasons of their lives,” Piper Jameson, founder and executive director of Care Fund, said. “This grant will go directly toward paying rent and mortgage for Arizona families who have had to step away from work to care for their critically ill child. Arizona Financial’s generosity ensures that these parents can stay focused on treatment and recovery, knowing their home and their stability is protected.”

Care Fund was selected through Arizona Financial Foundation’s Local Causes program, which supports small, community-based nonprofits. Since launching in 2020, the program has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations working to strengthen families and communities across Arizona.

“Care Fund embodies the kind of compassionate, community-driven work we are proud to support,” Amy Hysell, president and CEO of Arizona Financial, said. “When a child is fighting for their health, housing uncertainty should never add to that burden. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside the Care Fund and help vulnerable Arizona families remain safe and secure during incredibly difficult times.”
