Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how businesses hire, operate and compete, and Scottsdale Community College is introducing a new credential aimed at preparing professionals to work with emerging AI tools.

The college will debut its first artificial intelligence credential, the Foundations of Applied Artificial Intelligence Certificate of Completion, in the fall 2026 semester. The program is designed to help students apply AI tools across business functions without requiring a coding background, according to a press release.

The nine-credit certificate can be completed in one semester and moves students from foundational concepts to hands-on projects that focus on practical applications in areas such as marketing, finance, operations and customer experience.

“We are at an inflection point when it comes to artificial intelligence in the workforce,” said Dr. Eric Leshinskie, president of Scottsdale Community College. “This certificate is our commitment to making sure that students and professionals in our community don’t just watch that change happen, but help lead it. SCC has always been about removing barriers between people and opportunity, and this program does exactly that.”

The certificate is built around three courses: AI Literacy & Everyday Applications, Applied AI, Agents & Data Basics, and AI Integration Project.

The curriculum emphasizes ethical AI use, critical evaluation of AI-generated information and real-world problem solving across business functions. No prerequisites are required to enroll.

College officials said the program is intended for working professionals seeking to expand their skills in a changing job market. While the certificate is geared toward managers, analysts and entrepreneurs, its no-code structure also makes it applicable for educators, health care workers and others whose industries are being influenced by AI.

“This program was designed from the ground up to be practical and approachable,” said Nancy Dedakia, computer information systems faculty at Scottsdale Community College. “We’re not teaching students to build AI. We’re teaching them to use it wisely, ethically, and effectively. Whether you’re running a business, managing a team, or just trying to keep pace with your industry, these skills will make an immediate difference.”
