Waste Not, a local nonprofit focused on reducing food waste and hunger, is hosting its 35th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Oct. 18–19 at the Arizona Taco Fest at Salt River Fields.

Held in partnership with the Arizona Clay Association, the event will benefit Waste Not’s network of more than 85 nonprofit agencies that distribute excess food to Arizonans in need, according to a press release.

Local artists have created and donated handcrafted ceramic bowls, which will be on display and available for purchase during the event. Many of the bowls are one-of-a-kind, with some available in matching pairs.

Empty Bowls is part of a global grassroots initiative in which artists craft handmade bowls to raise awareness about food insecurity. The bowls serve as a symbol of the challenges faced by individuals struggling to meet basic nutritional needs.

“Empty Bowls is one of our favorite events that we put on each year,” said Tonia Smith, development manager at Waste Not.

“This event not only unites the Arizona community and highlights local artistic talent but also raises awareness of food insecurity within our state. We are excited to bring this beloved fundraiser to the Arizona Taco Fest and appreciate the support of our sponsors, the Arizona Clay Association, and the skilled artists whose ongoing contributions ensure the continued success of this event each year.”

The Arizona Taco Fest features more than 40 taco vendors from across the Valley, along with over 30 tequila and mezcal brands, live music, dancing, art activations, mercado shopping, kids’ activities, and more. The event will take place at Salt River Fields, 7555 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale.

Tickets for the Arizona Taco Fest can be purchased at tacofestaz.com.
