Elementary and middle school students from across Scottsdale Unified School District will have an opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics through interactive activities at Saguaro High School’s annual Sisters in STEM event.
The free event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the school’s Courtyard Quad Area, 6250 N. 82nd St. in Scottsdale.
Designed primarily to encourage girls to explore STEM fields, the event will welcome students in kindergarten through eighth grade for hands-on learning experiences led by Saguaro High School students, according to a press release.
The student-run Sisters in STEM organization is hosting the event with support from volunteers from Saguaro High School’s robotics team, Scottsdale Math & Science Academy and the National Honor Society.
Student volunteers will lead hands-on activities and experiments focused on biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics and technology. Organizers say the activities are designed to engage young learners while introducing them to STEM concepts in a fun and accessible way.
The event also provides Saguaro students an opportunity to serve as mentors and role models for younger students interested in science and technology.
Organizers say participants will be encouraged to explore, experiment, ask questions and develop problem-solving skills while learning directly from high school mentors.
The event is free to attend. Parking is available on the school’s north side, with access through the Innovation Center gate.
