The Town of Paradise Valley is announcing two local police officers — Officer Ponder and Officer Madrid — have both successfully passed the Arizona Peace Officer Standard and Training Board exam.
The mission of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board is to establish and maintain standards of integrity, competence, and professionalism for Arizona peace officers and correctional officers.
Both officers were sworn-in by Paradise Valley Police Chief Freeman Carney in late 2023, according to Paradise Valley Town Manager Andrew Ching.
Officer Ponder brings a wealth of experience, having retired from the Scottsdale Police Department following a 20-year career. His diverse roles included patrol sergeant, DEA task force, mounted unit supervisor, narc detective, swat, and counter terrorism.
Officer Madrid, hailing from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, served for six years on patrol and recently worked in the Community Oriented Policing division.
