Greenwood Brewing, the sole female-owned and operated brewery in Phoenix, is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration, featuring an array of festive events and the highly anticipated launch of a new beer.
“We’re excited to bring a lively Oktoberfest experience to downtown Phoenix and to share our new Festbier with the community,” said Megan Greenwood, owner of Greenwood Brewing. “This year’s celebration promises a remarkable fusion of tradition and innovation.”
The event will feature an all-female comedy show the night of Friday, Sept. 29, live music by local band Of Kith & Kin on Saturday, Sept. 30, as well as brewery yoga and tours Sunday, Oct. 1, complemented by an exclusive light German lager known as Festbier, brewed specifically for the occasion.
“The two types of beer served at a traditional Oktoberfest are a Marzen, typically darker in color with a higher ABV, or a Festbier, crisp and lighter in color with a lower ABV,” Ms. Greenwood said. “This year, we’re making a Festbier for the books that is best enjoyed in a large Greenwood Oktoberfest mug.”
The Oktoberfest brew, affectionately referred to as the “Schnitzel Pop Bier,” is a crisp and light German lager (Festbier), in contrast to the traditional Marzen. It’s designed to be savored in fun mugs during the festivities, providing a delightful experience that pairs perfectly with the celebratory atmosphere.
Oktoberfest holds historical significance, tracing back to 1810 in Munich, Germany. With over 6 million attendees worldwide each year, it’s a monumental people’s fest. Although Greenwood Brewing is smaller in scale compared to the grandeur of the Munich festival, it proudly hosts its own three-day celebration that is becoming more popular each year.

The brewery’s journey in hosting Oktoberfest began in July 2021, a year after its opening in July 2020. As the event has evolved, Greenwood Brewing now aims to deliver a substantial community celebration in 2023, reflecting the growth and vibrancy of the brewery and its supporters.
“Our growth mirrors the resilience of our community, and we’re thrilled to provide an unforgettable Oktoberfest experience,” Ms. Greenwood said. “This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before with lots of entertainment.”
Adding a unique touch to the festivities, Greenwood Brewing will also host an all-female comedy show on Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. The lineup includes Brandi Bigley who is the co-founder of Do Better Comedy, Hannah Tighe who has 10 years of stand up experience, Tara Shakespeare who runs “The Breakout Show” and the “Not so Black and White” show in Phoenix and Sari Beliak, a writer for the Onion and a local comedian.
