Ballet Arizona is excited to announce its upcoming production, “Spring Mix,” that will run from March 27 through 30th at Orpheum Theatre, blending bold innovation with timeless beauty.
A program of contemporary ballets, “Spring Mix” celebrates masterful and diverse choreography with works from both emerging and celebrated choreographers, according to a press release.
This year’s program features works by Christopher Wheeldon, Robert Bondara and a new world premiere by Ballet Arizona’s resident choreographer Nayon Iovino. Audiences will enjoy musical compositions from Ezio Bosso, Antonio Vivaldi, Radiohead, local composer Thomas Breadon Jr., and live musical accompaniment by local ensemble, Mill Ave Chamber Players.
Featuring an outstanding soundtrack of classical, contemporary and alternative music, Ballet Arizona will present the following ballets:
Within The Golden Hour
Experience Christopher Wheeldon’s masterful choreography with this awe-inspiring ballet that has quickly become an audience favorite.
Akelarre
In this powerful world premiere performance, Resident Choreographer, Nayon Iovino’s work evolves and transforms as the dancers explore relationships through movement. Augmented with an original score by Thomas Breadon Jr., audiences will have the opportunity to hear live music by local ensemble Mill Ave Chamber Players.
Take Me With You
Fans of alternative rock band Radiohead will be enamored with Robert Bondara’s mesmerizing contemporary choreography set to a series of songs, from “The Reckoner” to “True Love Waits.” With costumes designed by Bondara himself, this piece has captivated audiences since its debut in Poland, at the Poznan Opera Ballet.
“We are thrilled to support Nayon’s growth as a choreographer with his world premiere that continues to showcase his artistic evolution and innovation,” said Daniela Cardim, Ballet Arizona’s artistic director. “We are also equally excited to bring Robert Bonadara’s exquisite contemporary ballet to the Valley. It’s powerful, slick choreography will resonate with audience and elevate the experience of dance.”
In addition, Ballet Arizona will present its Studio Spotlight performance for “Spring Mix” on March 14 at 7 p.m. at Ballet Arizona’s Dorrance Theater.
During this add-on event, attendees can experience a behind-the-scenes look at this production as they attend an in-studio rehearsal with the dancers, learn more about the production from Ballet Arizona’s artistic team, and engage in a Q&A. Space is limited for this event and advanced purchase is encouraged.
