The Arizona Science Center Board of Trustees announced the unanimous appointment of Tammy Stewart as its next Hazel A. Hare president and chief executive officer.

Ms. Stewart has served as interim CEO since September 2025 and has been a longtime member of the Arizona Science Center leadership team, according to a press release.

Ms. Stewart oversees the $14 million operation of the 164,000-square-foot facility and leads a staff of more than 120 employees. In her role, she has guided programming, exhibitions and experiences aligned with the organization’s mission to inspire curiosity through science engagement.

Ms. Stewart brings 25 years of experience in museum and cultural organization operations and fundraising. Her career includes leadership roles at Arizona Science Center, Phoenix Art Museum, Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and Long Beach Symphony. During her tenure across these organizations, teams raised more than $150 million to support capital projects and ongoing operations.

“Tammy has demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision during a pivotal time for Arizona Science Center,” said Bob Miller, board chair. “Her deep commitment to the center’s mission, its team and our community has been evident from day one. We are thrilled Tammy has agreed to serve as our next Hazel A. Hare president and CEO.”

During her time at Arizona Science Center, Ms. Stewart guided the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic, securing funding to sustain operations and retain staff. She also oversaw the opening of the Dorrance DOME and the return of POMPEII: The Exhibition, both of which increased public engagement.

Ms. Stewart’s leadership approach emphasizes mentorship, collaboration and relationship-building with staff, donors, members, sponsors and volunteers. Initiatives such as “Coffee with the CEO” sessions are designed to encourage staff engagement and cross-department collaboration.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the Hazel A. Hare president and CEO of Arizona Science Center,” Ms. Stewart said. “This institution has an extraordinary team, a passionate community and a mission that inspires curiosity and learning. I look forward to building on our successes and continuing to make science accessible and engaging for all.”
