The Arizona Builders Alliance has selected OCJ Kids as the recipient of its annual community service project, with association members providing construction and renovation services to support the nonprofit’s work with foster and at-risk youth.
The project, led by the Arizona Builders Alliance’s Leadership Development Forum class, includes the renovation of two rooms at OCJ Kids’ new community impact center at 1441 W. Glendale Ave. in Phoenix. The facility was developed in partnership with City Church Phoenix, and renovations are expected to be completed in fall 2026, according to a press release.
“Foster youth face some of the most difficult challenges imaginable, and the spaces where they receive support matter. Our members are not just building rooms — they are building environments where young people can feel safe, seen, and empowered,” said Kim Davids, president and CEO of Arizona Builders Alliance. “This is the power of the construction industry at its best, and we are proud to put it to work for Arizona’s most vulnerable kids.”
OCJ Kids is a Phoenix-based nonprofit that works to support foster and at-risk children through programs focused on opportunity, community and advocacy.
The renovations will include a Calm Down Room, intended to provide foster youth, Department of Child Safety caseworkers and group home staff with a space to decompress, recharge and self-regulate. The project also includes a Dignity Room, designed for teenage girls in the foster care system and featuring dressing areas and resources focused on confidence, identity and personal development.
“The Arizona Builders Alliance is transforming spaces that will directly change the lives of youth in our care,” said Gary Webb, founder and president of OCJ Kids. “Foster children deserve environments that reflect their worth and dignity. These renovations will allow us to expand our programs and serve more kids who need us most. We are deeply grateful for the ABA’s commitment and the generosity of their members.”
The Leadership Development Forum is a professional development program for mid- to senior-level construction professionals. Participants develop leadership skills through hands-on learning, mentorship and community service projects. Each year, the class selects a local nonprofit and coordinates construction and renovation services as part of the program.
This year’s project will involve multiple trades, including demolition, electrical work and finish work provided by Arizona Builders Alliance member companies. Association members have already contributed materials, labor and volunteer hours.
The Arizona Builders Alliance is seeking donations of materials, labor and financial support for the project. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
Association officials said the project could be expanded to include additional areas of the facility following the planned completion of the current renovations in fall 2026.
