Abrazo Central Campus welcomed students from Phoenix’s Maryland School, and their artwork, to its community gallery on the first floor of the hospital.

The gallery opened last year and up until now featured only artwork from students at Washington High School. The Maryland School student artists viewed their artwork Thursday on campus with other students, family members, teachers and Abrazo Central Campus hospital officials.

“As the longtime community hospital in north central Phoenix, it’s important for us to have meaningful relationships with our neighbors and support education,” said Abrazo Central Campus CEO Gregory Pearson. “Our hospital staff truly enjoys the art in this gallery, and we appreciate the artists, so we hope to showcase their work for many years to come.”

The gallery displays student art on a rotating basis in collaboration with Glendale Union High School District.

Sifa Ujiga, a 7th-grade student artist, drew a green clover representing her growth throughout recent years in her life. She and about nine other student artists visited the gallery to view their artwork on display.

“The dark parts of the clover are from younger years when I had tougher times, the sticks are obstacles I had to overcome and the lighter part of the flower are when I reached my goals,” says 13-year-old Ujiga.

“Our gallery gives student artists a place to showcase their talents and see their work impact their community. In return, their community support their pursuits, so it’s a real win-win all around,” Mr. Pearson said.
