Big League Wiffle Ball’s seventh annual Western Wiffle Ball Classic will return to Scottsdale Stadium with a revamped Home Run Derby that gives participants a chance to compete for a $1,000 prize.
The Western Wiffle Ball Classic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Scottsdale Stadium, with Home Run Derby qualifying rounds taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a press release.
Participants can enter the qualifying rounds for $10 and will receive 60 seconds to hit as many Wiffle balls over the fence as possible. The top 16 hitters will advance to the finals at 7 p.m. on the main field, where they will compete in a single-elimination bracket.
“The Home Run Derby’s a huge part of the Classic, so this year, we wanted to give as many people as possible a chance to be part of it,” Logan Rose, founder of Big League Wiffle Ball, said. “Anyone can come out, put down $10 and get 60 seconds to show the fans what they’ve got.”
The Home Run Derby is one component of the Western Wiffle Ball Classic, which has expanded from informal backyard games into a league that attracts audiences through online videos and livestreams.
The organization has also attracted investors and owners that include Nelly, Kevin Costner, Dude Perfect, Gary Vaynerchuk, AJ Vaynerchuk, Marc Lasry, David Blitzer, David Adelman, Ron Biscardi, Molly Bloom and Howard Warren Buffett.
Now in its seventh year, the Western Wiffle Ball Classic brings players and spectators to Scottsdale Stadium, the spring training home of the San Francisco Giants, for a full day of competition and activities. Admission is $10, and parking is free for players and spectators.
Teams of three to five players may register to compete in either the Open or Pro divisions.
